In the face of increasing extreme weather events, flood‑risk management has become a critical priority for public safety and land‑use planning. In this context, Geosapiens has been mandated1 by the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP) to carry out a project aimed at providing flood‑mapping and analysis data for the entire province of Québec..

The MELCCFP has tasked Geosapiens with producing and documenting an approximate flood‑extent layer for extreme events across Québec.

This project entrusted to Geosapiens will produce the first complete, homogeneous, and consistent province‑wide dataset indicating, for each area, whether it could be affected by an extreme flood event with a high return period.

These data will be highly valuable for:

  • land‑use planning and sustainable development

  • proactive flood‑risk management;

  • emergency preparedness and disaster‑response coordination;

  • strengthening community resilience to climate change.

By entrusting this mandate to Geosapiens, the Government of Québec  aims to assess how its flood risk modeling and mapping solution can be applied across the various situations described aboveg. This collaboration highlights the capacity of local innovation to address complex public challenges with significant societal impact.

For Geosapiens, this represents an important milestone in its growth, but above all, a concrete opportunity to contribute to citizen safety and to more informed, responsible land‑use management across Québec.

Through this project, Geosapiens reaffirms its mission: leveraging science and advanced technologies to help decision‑makers better anticipate, understand, and manage climate‑related risks.
